Hi everyone,

My name is Kylie Popejoy Vieira, and I’m reaching out for help for my sister Sarah, who is in the middle of a long and painful custody battle for her daughter, Olivia. Asking people for money is not comfortable but at this point we aren’t sure what to do. We need help.

For years, Sarah has been fighting to protect her relationship with Olivia. Unfortunately, Olivia’s father has been making this process incredibly difficult. As he has been using the legal system to drag things out and drain her emotionally and financially.

Sarah works full time as clinical staff at Valley View Hospital. She is a behavioral health advocate, and a counseling intern. She is also in school to become a clinical psychologist to help people struggling with mental illness in our community and beyond. She is doing everything she can to support herself as a single mother and to create a stable future for herself and her daughter. She has had to hire an attorney just to stand up for her and Olivia’s rights, but the legal costs are overwhelming. She’s falling behind on rent and at risk of losing her apartment while trying to pay mounting lawyer fees.

This fight doesn’t just affect Sarah and Olivia…it affects our whole family. My husband Tavi and I are Olivia’s aunt and uncle, and we love her like our own. Not being able to see her has left an empty space in our lives. Watching Sarah struggle breaks our hearts. We’ve been doing everything we can to support as much as we can, but with our own bills and responsibilities, we simply can’t keep up with the costs of this battle on our own.

Our parents have both passed away, so we don’t have the family support others might turn to in times like these. It’s just us, fighting together to make sure Olivia can be with her family and that Sarah doesn’t lose everything in the process.
