Almost five years ago, my mom and dad made a huge sacrifice—they left their own home and moved to the family farm to care for my grandparents. My grandfather built this house over 40 years ago, and both he and my grandmother wished to spend their final days in the home they loved. My parents devoted themselves to honoring that wish, caring for them through every challenge. My grandmother passed away first, and a year later, my grandfather followed. His dying wish was for the house to stay in the family, a place where my dad grew up and where my own children could one day make memories.
After my grandfather passed, life became even more difficult. My mom was diagnosed with cancer and lost vision in one eye. My dad, who has always worked two jobs to provide for us, is now struggling to keep up with the property taxes, insurance, and the many repairs a 40-year-old house needs. They’ve had to replace the air conditioner and fix the septic system, spending every dollar they had and maxing out credit cards just to keep the house running and honor my grandparents’ wishes. On top of all this, my dad was recently diagnosed with a heart condition, and my mom’s insurance covers less than half of her medical expenses. The financial burden is overwhelming, and I’m heartbroken to see them worry and struggle after all they’ve done for our family.
I never thought I’d have to ask for help or support from anyone else, especially knowing that so many people have their own struggles. But my parents are my everything, and it would break their hearts to lose the home they love so much. I’m reaching out to ask for help with property taxes and my mom’s medical costs, so we can keep my grandfather’s dying wish alive. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to care and support us—your kindness means more than words can say.
