Help My Navajo Communities
Donation protected
Ya'at'eeh! My name is Veronica Willeto DeCrane. I am of the Many Hogans Clan, born for the Mexican Clan. My maternal grandparents are of the Tangle Clan and my paternal grandparents are of the Bitterwater Clan. I grew up in the communities of Counselor and Ojo Encino. I currently live in Billings, Montana with my husband and kids, but my parents, family and relatives continue to live in these communities.
As of May 11, when my husband and I first started this relief effort, the Navajo Nation had the highest number of positive cases per capita. The Navajo Nation leaders put in place a shelter-in-place order, nightly curfews, and 57-hour weekend lock downs that continue to this day. With the effort to keep everyone home, there is particular concern for elders, single parent families, and families with no or low income in these communities who are in need of essentials and may not have the means to stock up on supplies or transportation available to get their supplies. My husband and I wanted to help so we first started asking our friends and relatives on Facebook to join us in showing support and solidarity with these communities by donating material goods or money. We accept donations by check, cash, and Facebook pay. At the request of those who would find it easier to donate through this platform, we now have this GoFundMe campaign.
Counselor and Ojo Encino are small, rural communities located in the Eastern Agency of the Navajo Nation. We are working with community leaders as well as faith-based groups who have identified those most in need and will be handling the distribution of whatever we donate. With their assistance, the following list was shared with us as essential items needed by those families at this time...
Personal Hygiene
Bar of soap
Body wash
Shampoo
Conditioner
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Adult diapers (S-XL)
Baby diapers (Infant-toddlers)
Feminine hygiene products
Handsanitizer
Cleaning/Household
Bleach
Disinfectant spray
Sanitizing wipes
Dish soap
Hand soap
Laundry DetergentToilet paper
Facial Tissue
Paper towels
Paper plates, bowls, & utensils
Reusable bags
We plan on purchasing and collecting these items here in Montana and transporting them down to Counselor and Ojo Encino. We found this to be the best option as there is a shortage of some of these items in towns like Farmington and Albuquerque where people in Counselor and Ojo Encino would normally go to shop.
We hope you will join us in offering our support to my home communities. Any amount of donation you are able to offer will be very much appreciated. Ahehee'
