Help My Mum Walk Again and Live Safely
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Evelina, and I’m raising funds for my mum in Latvia, who urgently needs surgery on her leg and help with basic home repairs. She is doing everything she can to survive — but her health and living environment are failing her.
My mum is a strong, hardworking woman — a single mother who raised me on her own and gave everything she could. She now suffers daily from a painful heel spur, a partially torn Achilles tendon, carpal tunnel syndrome from years of physical labour, and spinal disc protrusions in her neck and lower back. Because of these health issues, she struggles to walk, move, and even sleep. But despite all of this, she still works night shifts — not because she wants to, but because she has no choice. The medical bills and daily costs are overwhelming.
Just two weeks ago, during our first ever family trip, things took a turn for the worse. My mum developed a serious skin infection called erysipelas, which left her legs severely swollen and inflamed. At the same time, we were victims of a robbery — we lost everything, including hygiene items, passports, and other personal belongings. It was a painful and traumatic experience for both of us.
Doctors now say she needs surgery urgently to prevent further damage and help her walk again. The operation costs €2,700 and includes removal of the heel spur and surgical repair of her Achilles tendon. This doesn’t include medications or post-op recovery, and unfortunately we simply cannot afford it.
Her home is also unsafe for healing. After mandatory pipe replacement in her apartment building, she was left with exposed walls, open plumbing, and no way to finish repairs. The bathroom is cold, uncomfortable, and dangerous for someone with limited mobility and infection risk.
On top of everything, my mum has recently been struggling with depression, which began to worsen over the past few months. Living in constant pain, working night shifts, and being unable to move freely or enjoy the outside world has taken a serious emotional toll on her. She feels trapped inside her body and her home, and it breaks my heart to see how much this is affecting not just her health, but her spirit too.
After surgery, she will not be able to return to work for at least six months. During that time, she will need financial support for basic living expenses, medications, transportation to appointments, and recovery. Your help would give her the ability to rest and heal without the fear of losing everything she’s worked so hard for.
I currently live in the UK and support her from a distance while also dealing with my own depression and financial limitations. I wish I could do more for her on my own, but I can’t. That’s why I’m asking for help — not out of weakness, but out of love.
It’s not easy for me to share something so personal. Talking about our struggles, especially when they involve our health, home, and pride, feels like exposing something I’ve always kept private. But I’m doing this because I have no choice left — and because I still believe that kindness exists, even for people like us who try to stay quiet and strong until we simply can’t anymore.
Here’s why your support means so much to me:
- My mum is still working night shifts, even while in pain
- She has always cared for others, and never asked for much herself
- I’ve done everything I can, but I simply can’t manage this alone
- Your kindness can help give her safety, rest, and hope again
Your donation will help cover urgent surgery, medications, transport, basic home repairs, and essential living costs while my mum recovers. Even a small gift makes a big difference. And if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign with others.
Thank you — from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness means more than words.
With gratitude,
Evelina
