Hello, a lot of you know my mother Gail, she has helped so many people get through some very hard times, and she is now in need of help herself.
My mother recently fell and broke both of her arms, leaving her unable to perform even the simplest of tasks. As a result, she's had to take time off from work, and her rent and medical bills are quickly adding up. We're hoping to raise enough money to cover her medical expenses, home care for 6 weeks, rent, transportation costs, and other necessities so she can focus on healing and getting back to her daily life.
It all started from some nerve damage in her arm, and after shoveling snow out of her driveway she experienced severe pain down her arm, into her fingers and tightness around her heart. Being worried she was having a heart problem she grabbed her chest and got up and quickly tried to get to her phone. It was at that time she lost her balanced and tripped and fell with both arms under her. After a long time alone and in pain she managed to get to her phone and call for help. The first trip to the hospital resulted in them just checking her heart and telling her the pain in her arms was most likely from pulled muscles. No X-rays were done.
After 3 days at home with unbearable pain, her friend took her to a walk-in clinic where they took an X-ray of her left arm and confirmed it was indeed broken and they put a cast on it and a support for her right arm. 2 days later they did an X-ray on the right arm and put her in a cast for that as well.
The next week she went to the fracture clinic where they told her that the left arm needed a different brace to help it heal properly and avoid surgery. That brace cost $400 and my mother, who was already not working for that week, was worried about being able to afford that. The doctor there said that if she can not afford it then she would have to go home in a sling with very little support and there was nothing else they could do. She had no choice but to pay for the proper brace and go home very disheartened over the whole experience.
At this time, because she is not a senior and works at home for herself, she does not qualify for any financial aid, EI, or home care. She is currently unable to shower, dress or undress without help, cook, or lift anything and is also unable to work. This means she needs home care for 1-2 hours a day for the next 6-8 weeks and also needs help being able to make her rent payments.
If you can contribute anything to helping my mother Gail, it would be greatly appreciated. She wants nothing more than to get better and get back to her work helping others. I have set the goal for this at $2500 which should help her with one month's rent, groceries and hopefully some home care. If we can surpass that, she may also be able to afford the Osteo injections that have been recommended by the doctors.
Thank you for your support, and please help us spread the word!
