Hi family and friends,
We are humbly asking for a little help for my mother-in-law who had her right leg amputated (knee down).
She has undergone 6 surgeries in the past month. She had a simple fall in their home that resulted in simple wounds on her knees. A week later, her right knee got infected, and she was brought to their center for cleaning and was prescribed antibiotics.
Two weeks later, her right knee got worse, causing necrosis. She was admitted, and they removed the necrotic part with high hopes that it could be restructured.
Unfortunately, to our dismay, the doctors said that it was no longer salvageable and that it was best to amputate to prevent the necrosis from spreading. Our family was in disbelief and denial. We looked for other doctors who might tell us it was still possible to reconstruct it. She was sent for a Doppler test to check the blood flow in her legs. There was still blood flow, but not enough to sustain, and amputation was really the best and last resort.
Her right leg was amputated last January 11.
On January 13, they removed the coverings and cleaned it.
On January 15, it got infected again, and they had to take her in for another surgery to clean the infected part. Two days later, another surgery was performed to remove the infected part again, and it was sent to a laboratory, to study what kind of pathogen/microorganism it had so they could provide the right antibiotic for it, to find out it was a fungi.
For almost 2 weeks, her wound was kept open just to make sure it was healing well.
Thankfully, it did. It showed good color (good blood flow), no more tenderness on site, and no swelling, no more infection.
They decided to close the wound last Thursday, and she was told that she would still be monitored and possibly be sent to an infection control doctor.
Today, 2/1/26, almost a month of being hospitalized, she was told that she would be discharged tomorrow (Monday, 2/2/26), leaving our family, especially my husband, with no time to gather resources for her hospital balance. Our family had already exhausted all our efforts and resources.
As the medical treatments continue, including therapy afterwards and medical equipment to help her recovery, the expenses have quickly added up.
Unfortunately, she doesn't have medical insurance, leaving our family with a substantial financial deficit during this difficult time.
Her family here and in Mexico have already given their fair share of help and continue to do so. Alex is her only child, and we have already exhausted all our means at this time, as he's also the provider for our little family.
My mother-in-law is very independent.
Very happy, very loving, selfless and caring.
She's 51 y/o, A single mom who raised her only son by herself.
She has her own canteen (lonchera) in their town.
She may not or may be limited to go back to her daily activities.
My husband Alex is her only son, and she's everything to him.
With humble hearts, we are asking for any support you may be able to give, no matter the amount.
Thank you, everyone, for all your understanding. Kindly keep us in your prayers because things are still heavy and dark. God bless
