My mother has always done her best to get by on her own, despite living with a mental disability and relying on Social Security. Recently, her world was turned upside down when her landlord passed away, forcing her to leave the home she had known for years. The only apartment she could find on short notice has become a nightmare. She’s been overwhelmed by mice, lead dust covers everything, and the upstairs neighbors’ constant plumbing issues have destroyed her bathroom three times in just three months. Her kitchen has already flooded once.
She’s so afraid of the mice that she keeps the lights on all night and has moved her most treasured possessions—her photo albums, and the ashes of her mother, late partner, and beloved little dog Smoochie—into the living room just to keep them safe. She’s on a waiting list for senior living, but that could take years, and she simply can’t keep living like this.
I’m asking for help to get my mother out of this dangerous situation. The funds will go toward hiring movers, finding her a safe, clean place to live, and covering a security deposit and a few months’ rent so she can get back on her feet and out from under the debt this has caused. Any support you can give will mean the world to us and help my mother find the safety and peace she deserves.
