My name is Malin, and I’m starting this fundraiser for my mom, Carina.
My mom has always been a deeply creative person. She loved sewing, making quilts, wall hangings, potholders, and other beautiful handmade pieces. She also enjoyed painting and expressing herself through colors and creativity. Creating things wasn’t just something she did — it was part of who she is.
At the end of 2023, at the age of 73, my mom had a serious accident at home. She fell in the kitchen and suffered several injuries, including a broken femur, knee damage, and a hip fracture.
What followed was an incredibly difficult time. During her recovery, she developed a severe infection, and in February 2024, she suffered a heart attack. Around then, we began to notice changes in her — it felt like we were slowly losing the person we knew.
After a long and scary journey to find answers, she was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in the fall of 2024.
Today, Carina is living with the effects of this disease. Her vision has worsened, her coordination has declined, and she struggles to understand instructions or use her crafting tools. Things she once did with ease are now confusing and overwhelming.
It’s incredibly hard to watch someone you love lose parts of themselves like this. But I want to give something back to her — a sense of joy, calm, and creativity in a way that works for her now.
I’m raising funds to buy simple, accessible creative tools for her, such as:
* Coloring books adapted for cognitive challenges
* Soft crayons, markers, and easy-to-use art supplies
* Simple puzzles that bring calm and focus
These small things can make a big difference. They can help her feel engaged, relaxed, and connected to the creative part of herself that is still there.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean the world to us. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page can help us reach someone who can — and that means just as much.
If you prefer to contribute in a more direct way, I’ve also created an Amazon wishlist with some of the items that would mean a lot for Carina right now.
Thank you for helping me bring a little bit of light, color, calm and joy back into my mom’s life.
With gratitude,
Malin
