Last night in Portland, Oregon, my mom was the victim of a brutal and random attack. A group of ten teenagers assaulted her—kicking, punching, and beating her as she tried to get away. After managing to escape, she was shot in the head and neck just a few blocks down the street. She is now in critical care at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, fighting to recover from these devastating injuries.
This has been an incredibly difficult time for our family. My mom is a kind, loving, old-school hippie who has never had a problem with anyone. It’s heartbreaking that something so senseless could happen to someone so gentle. She will be unable to work for some time and needs help with basic needs like a cell phone, a safe place to rest, and support as she begins her long road to recovery. Anything you can give will help her get back on her feet.
We are deeply grateful for the medical staff caring for her and for the kindness of strangers who have already shown support.
