Our family’s world changed in an instant. My mother was severely injured during a violent altercation in Long County, Georgia. She was caught in the middle and attacked with a sword, suffering life-altering injuries. She was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, where she remains in critical but stable condition.
As a result of this attack, my mom lost her right hand, suffered a serious brain injury that required a brain graft, and is now paralyzed on the left side of her body. The side of her body that still functions no longer has a hand, and she cannot dress herself or live independently. In a single night, my mom lost her independence and now faces a long road ahead, including extensive rehabilitation, specialized therapy, and full-time care.
Unfortunately, Medicaid does not cover the level of rehabilitation and support she needs. She will also need a handicap-accessible home, medical equipment, and ongoing assistance just to manage daily life. My mother is a loving, kind woman who did nothing to deserve this. She was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time—and now faces a lifetime of challenges.
We are raising funds to help cover long-term rehabilitation and therapy, accessible housing and modifications, and daily care and medical-related expenses. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps give my mom a chance at comfort, dignity, and the best possible recovery. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing. Your support, prayers, and kindness mean more than we can express. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
