Hey everyone, my family and I are going through a really hard and emotional time. My mom is currently facing extremely defamatory, untrue allegations made by her ex-spouse and has to get a really good lawyer because of the disturbing nature of these allegations. I can't go into details as to what they are, but they pose a serious risk in determining how much custody my mother gets of my toddler brother. 

My mom is a hardworking, ambitious mom. I remember being 10-years-old and seeing her put herself through dental assisting school while balancing 3 jobs + being pregnant with my now 12-year-old sister. My mom has inspired my sisters and I to not be afraid of challenges, but to confidently tackle them on. I'm currently pursuing my bachelors in civil engineering, and my sisters are on their way to becoming future dentists and environmental engineers. To say that my mom has been a positive influence on us is an extreme understatement. It's been very stressful for my sisters and I to see her character being tarnished and to see her be painted in such an inappropriate way. This whole situation has been a painful betrayal to us. 

The average cost of a family/divorce lawyer in California is 13k-15.3k. You may be thinking: why not just get a lawyer thats within your budget? We did. This lawyer didn't understand my moms story and didn't bother to. Miscommunications and misunderstandings resulted in a disastrous first court hearing.  

We really need an experienced and reputable lawyer because this is my brother we are fighting for. He's super attached to my sisters, my mom, and I.  He deserves to spend time in a household where he's comfortable and supported. 

I can't publicly talk about my moms ex-spouse's (my ex-stepdad) behavior and the way he has treated my mother these past few years. His family is able to afford a team of expensive lawyers and i don't want any more trouble with them. Anything we publicly say on social media is going to be used against us. 

My ex-stepdad currently has temporary full custody of my brother while my mom only has supervised visitation rights. These supervisors charge ~$50 an hour + a ~$25 fee to write a report. My mom can't afford to pay for all of this with her dental assistant salary and the small amounts of money my family members can afford to contribute. Our next court date is in December and custody can change during this hearing. The reason i added the extra 1k to the goal is because this is how much i'm guessing we will spend in these supervising fees between now and December.
