Help My Mom Heal After a Devastating Accident

Hi, my name is Ari Aguilar, and I’m asking for help for my amazing mom, Jaimie Aguilar.

A few weeks ago, my mom had a terrible fall that changed everything. She broke nearly every bone in her right foot — the same foot where she already had an ankle replacement — and also fractured her left leg. On top of that, she suffered a head injury. The swelling was so bad that doctors couldn’t do surgery right away, and even after sedation to reset the bones, she’s still in intense pain. She was sent home but fell again trying to get up our steps and is now back at the University of Iowa Hospitals for care.

My mom is strong. She’s a single mom who has always done everything she can to take care of me and my sister. She’s worked so hard her whole life — especially as a CNA, where she’s taken care of so many grannies and grandpas with love and compassion. She’s always been the one helping others, even when she was hurting herself. But this time, she’s the one who needs help.

Because of her injuries, she’s had to delay starting school and won’t be able to work for a long time. We don’t know when — or if — she’ll be able to return to a job. She’s doing everything she can to stay hopeful, but the financial stress is overwhelming.

We’re asking for help with:

Rent and basic living expenses while she recovers

Medical bills not covered by insurance

Transportation costs for appointments

Equipment or care she may need at home during recovery
