Hi, my name is Regene and I'm fundraising on behalf of my mom and grandma. Last year my grandma suffered from a stroke. It was by a miracle that my mom happend to facetime her and catch her right in the middle of it. Fortunately, during that time, my mom was able to fly home to the Philippines, nurse her back to good health, and celebrate her 78th birthday. This morning, 6/13, I found out that my grandma is back in the hospital after a series of events that caused her a great deal of physical, mental, and emotion stress. She also happens to be in a hospital in Bicol where the Mayon Volcano has forced alot of people to evacuate and hazardous eruption is possible within weeks or even days. My grandma is a breast cancer survivor. She was and is the rock of her family. She sacrified so much to provide for her 4 kids. She helped raise 13 grandchildren. Somehow in this stage of life, she's found herself alone and crying out for help. As things are, they are not looking bright, and the doctors in the Philippines have recommened that we should "prepare". I've never created a GoFundMe for myself or for my family. To be frank, it's something I'm really having a hard time doing. As a daughter of first-generation immigrants, the abillity to give back to my parents and grandparents has always been a consistent force of motivation in my academic career, work life, and creative endeavors. Being a CA resident, 2 years post-grad, and a couple months unemployed, financially, I'm feeling helpless while my grandma is going through this life changing emergency. I can't wrap my head around the heartbreak and stress that my mom is currently feeling. She was the hero who never asked for help. But today as I spoke to her on the phone, I heard her cry out for the first time. As someone who has also always been the main provider of my family, she's had to sacrifice her time, her body, and herself to care for us, her siblings, and my grandma. Although time is of the essence, as things are for her today, she can't just hop a plane to be with her. To my friends, family, and strangers. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
