Help My Mom Find Stability

Donation protected
Hello! I am reaching out to the community for support for my mother. My mom has been a single mom for all of my conscious memory, and an incredible one at that. My parents immigrated from the Congo in the '80s, and my father was the breadwinner of our family. Unfortunately, he stopped being a part of the picture when I was about 4 years old (almost 19 years ago) and passed away last year after a long battle with mental illness. We have yet to even get him a gravestone, sadly due to a lack of funds.

This has left my mother, and therefore my entire family, without stability for many years. But my superhero of a mother made it work somehow. My mother came to America knowing no English, with two kids, and has been a homemaker (which is no easy job) for my entire life. She went on to have four more kids, for a whopping total of six. She used to always tell me that she would've had ten kids if she could, so that her kids never felt alone in America. Our entire extended family is still in our home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo, a nation that is going through the indescribable and unimaginable right now (to put it lightly).

That being said, my mother and sister have been evicted from the apartment they shared in Philadelphia. Our family home was foreclosed on in 2022, so we haven't had stability in many years. My mom is in need of some financial assistance to help get her back on her feet and begin this next chapter of her life.

It is so, so hard asking for help. Especially as a Black person, an African-American... the list goes on and on. We have been taught to keep our family matters as private as possible. However, that is no longer an option for us. I do not want my mother to be on the streets. If I had the money or a home base for her, I'd do everything in my power to support the woman who brought me into this world. But until I'm rich and successful (fingers crossed), I really need your help.

There are so many other grave issues going on in this world that are far more disastrous, so it feels even harder to ask for money as we watch the documentation and endorsement of multiple genocides across the globe. And so I must hold space for that, as well as the people here in America who are financially or otherwise struggling with the insane (once again, to put it lightly) reality we live in. So I hope that even if you can't donate, you can share this around and care for someone in your community. It starts with your neighbor. If you're reading this, I love you! Thank you for your time and attention. <3
