This is an urgent plea, I need your help to keep my mother, Darla Keeling from homelessness. She only has just over a month until she loses her apartment.
Back in 2023, my mother was experiencing failure in both her kidneys which led to the discovery that she had also developed cancer. This left her unable to work due to the intensity of the treatments and complications of her condition. Since then, she’s gone through radiation, chemotherapy, and multiple surgeries, most of them unplanned emergencies that have left her weakened with a colostomy bag and stints in her kidneys. Her only source of income currently is from social security, which is not nearly enough to afford a place to live and basic necessities.
My goal is to raise enough money to at least get her rent paid through the year. This will provide her some security while we apply for assistance programs in the hopes of finding some greater stability.

Anyone who has known my mother has seen one of the brightest lights in life. Whether she knew you well or was only just meeting you, you’d feel like you were talking to a best friend you’ve known for ages. Connecting with people, spreading smiles and love; that is my mom’s gift. Every friend, classmate, or coworker was treated like they were her own children. So much so that many called her “Mom” no different than I do.
She always did what she could for others, constantly giving what energy she had for the sake of those she cared for. All of this in spite of a hard life. She had gone through incredible difficulty in her childhood and physical harm in her young adult life, things that no one deserves to suffer with. The fact that she chooses to be a positive force in the lives of those she meets takes an unbelievably tremendous amount of strength. Strength she carried all throughout my life, but I know she’s tired and has been for a long, long time now.
I always hoped that one day I’d be able to buy a house and make sure she’d never have to worry about having a place to live, to be at home. It’s a worry we’ve had to face a few more times than we would have liked.
