Help my mom and sister escape dictatorship in Venezuela

Hello, I'm Dani :)

I'm helping my mom and sister move from Venezuela to Spain. It's a long process and whatever help will be literally life changing and super appreciated.

So far with donations we have:

  • Gotten my mom her passport
  • Legalised her diplomas
  • Paid for her therapy sessions

THE PLAN

I am a Spanish citizen, and I will give both my mother and sister the legal pathways to build a dignified life here.

Once in Spain, my mother will begin preparing for oposiciones — the public legal exams that offer lifelong, stable employment as a civil servant. Her decades of expertise, now finally matched by fair pay. She has her heart in a good place, and while in Europe, she can also help the agricultural industry, biodiversity, and help those in need with her legal skills.

Mafer will transfer her studies to a Spanish university, where she will apply for scholarships and begin her career on solid ground. There is no doubt that she will get it and thrive, she only needs one shot to take it.

They do not want luxury. They want stability and peace. I want that too. But I can’t do it alone.

CURRENT SITUATION

My mom is María Gabriela Delgado. She is 55. A lawyer. An agricultural engineer. A woman who once held an entire region’s environmental law in her hands — while being paid $20 a month. Surviving. (Mind you, going to the supermarket in Venezuela is no much different than buying groceries in Spain, price wise.)

Next to her, my little sister — María Fernanda Salazar. We call her Mafer. She’s 17, already studying telecommunications engineering in Venezuela. She's passionate and a very disciplined student.

Why now?

I have helped my father and my other sister migrate already. I’ve stretched myself, pouring everything I’ve earned into reunifying my family piece by piece. I thought maybe my mother and Mafer could wait a little longer (and they can) — but it's just uncomfortable to live the way they do.

My mother is injured. She is not making enough to stay afloat and is forced to walk for hours to work in a job that pay her 60 USD a month, when going to the grocery shop and buying one 2 simple bags of food costs about 100 USD.

I would love to be able to provide rest and healing beyond survival, and if you feel called and inclined to help me with this. Then the hearts and the doors are open.

Why Therapy Is Part of This

Migration is a lot, it was a lot for me at 22 and it will be for a 55 year old that has been through so much pain. It’s grief, memory, adaptation, and hope folded into a single suitcase.

That’s why this plan includes mental health care — to help them untangle the trauma of authoritarian and violent life, to relearn safety in their own bodies, to begin again with gentleness and clarity.

What Your Donation Covers

We are aiming to raise €26,000, which will cover:

  • Flights from Venezuela (including transport from Maracaibo to Caracas)
  • One year of rent in Spain (modest apartment, deposit, agency fees)
  • Mafer’s university fees for one semester until she can apply for scholarship
  • All bureaucracy costs in Venezuela and Spain (about €2,000 because everything is corrupted and you can't simply ask for documents, you need to pay crazy amounts for them)
  • Suitcases and migration essentials
  • Bi-monthly therapy sessions for both
  • Basic food and health insurance

Everything has been calculated with care, for two people. We have stretched each euro as far as it can go.

❤️ How You Can Help

If you can support us with €30, €60, or even more, know that your money is buying safety for a woman who has not rested in years. It’s buying education for a girl with a million dreams inside her. It’s buying the rarest gift: dignity.

Thank you and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me anything!

With gratitude,
Dani
