Having to even start this has been really hard and it's embarrassing, but I have to put my pride aside and do what I have to for my kids. Here's our story:
I'm Amber, I'm married to Shawn and have been for 20 years, and we have 3 kids together: our 16-year-old son Carsyn, 12-year-old son Grayson, and our princess, 5-year-old Lillian. We have lived in Pickerington for the last 3 years in an apartment/townhouse, and we became month-to-month over 2 years ago when our year lease was up. We have made many complaints about the basement leaking and the black mold in the basement, and we believe this is the reason they decided to terminate our month-to-month lease. It wasn't for non-payment as we paid them every month, even if we were late a few times. Unfortunately, it's perfectly legal in Ohio to terminate a month-to-month lease, and they don't even have to have a reason, but we're pretty sure it's because they don't want to fix the things that are wrong with their townhomes. We aren't the only victims of this.
My husband and I both work full-time; he's a diesel truck mechanic on 1st shift, and I'm a janitorial supervisor for Goodwill Columbus and work 3rd shift. Finding a place on short notice has been hard, but one of the biggest problems we've run into is not only the cost of rent but needing 1st and last month's rent and a security deposit, which is usually the cost of rent. Once you're approved, you have 24-48 hours to pay all that upfront, and we just don't have that kind of money. If we don't leave our current place soon, they will put in an eviction, and we can't afford to have that on our credit, or we'll never find a place. So I'm putting my pride and embarrassment aside for my kids' sake, and I'm asking, no, I'm begging, for help. Help us get a roof over our kids' heads. Every little thing will help, even if it's just prayers or sharing our story, it all helps!
