Hi, my name is Shannon, and I’m reaching out on behalf of the most important person in my life — my grandpop, Harry. I lovingly call him Butter Cup because that’s exactly what he is to me: soft-hearted, sweet, and full of love — even after all life has put him through.
Butter Cup is 79 years old and currently on dialysis. Every day is a fight for his health, yet he continues to face it all with grace and quiet strength. He has been through more than most people could ever bear — and still, he remains the most hardworking, kind, loving, and accepting man I have ever known.
He spent over 40 years as a truck driver — working long hours, through harsh weather, often sacrificing sleep, holidays, and even his own well-being just to provide for his family. He worked until his body could no longer keep up — finally stepping back only about a year ago when he physically couldn’t do it anymore.
Eight years ago, he lost his beloved wife — the love of his life. Not long after, he endured the unimaginable heartbreak of losing both of his sons. Even through that deep grief, he never became bitter or angry. Instead, he continued showing love to everyone around him, never expecting anything in return.
When I lost my own parents, he stepped in without hesitation. He took me in, gave me a home, fed me, and wrapped me in unconditional love. He was my safe place when everything else in my world was falling apart. He didn’t think twice — because that’s just the kind of man he is.
Today, he lives in heartbreaking conditions. He shares a small, roach-infested home with my uncle. The rent is barely manageable, and the living environment is unhealthy and unsafe — especially for someone on dialysis. His car is falling apart, and even just getting to his medical appointments is a struggle. He deserves so much more than this.
I recently moved out, and it’s been hard because I can’t help him the way I want to. I do what I can, but between my own rent, bills, and responsibilities, I simply can’t carry it alone — and it breaks my heart to see him struggle after everything he’s done for me and for everyone else in his life.
That’s why I’ve created this GoFundMe — not for luxury, but for dignity. To help my grandpop live out his remaining years in a clean, safe space with the peace he so deeply deserves.
Funds will go toward:
• Helping him move into a clean, livable home
• Covering rent and basic monthly expenses
• Repairing or replacing his car so he can safely get to dialysis
• Any out-of-pocket medical costs or essentials
If you’ve ever known the kind of love that makes you feel safe just by being in the same room — that’s who Butter Cup is. He’s never asked for anything. He wouldn’t ask now. But I will. Because this man spent a lifetime giving, and now he needs someone to give to him.
Please, if you can donate — no matter the amount — it would truly make a difference. And if you can’t give right now, even sharing this page means more than you know.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading and for caring about my grandpop.
With love and so much gratitude,
Shannon
