My name is Katrina, and I’m writing with a heavy heart to ask for your help.

My best friend, Bella, who has been like a sister and family to me for many years, is now fighting for her life in the ICU here in Kelowna, BC, after suffering a massive stroke. What makes this even more devastating is that it happened during what was supposed to be a joyful occasion — her 43rd birthday.

We had traveled from our home in Calgary to Kelowna to celebrate her birthday with a short getaway — something she had been looking forward to for months. But instead of laughter and celebration, the day turned into a nightmare. She collapsed suddenly and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered a severe stroke affecting the right side of her brain. In a desperate attempt to save her life, they had to remove a significant portion of her right brain.

She is now unconscious, on life support, and facing an uncertain future with possible long-term disability and extensive rehabilitation. Every hour counts..and every ounce of support matters.

Bella has no immediate family in Canada. I have been doing all I can to stay by her side and take care of everything but I know she needs more than what I alone can give. She needs her family.

Her younger brother, Larry, is in the Philippines right now and is heartbroken, desperate to come to Canada to be by her side and help care for her during this critical time. But the costs of international travel, visa processing, and temporary accommodation are far beyond our means right now.

That’s why I’m reaching out to ask for your kindness and support in raising funds to bring her brother here as soon as possible.

The funds will go directly toward:

• Larry’s airfare and travel expenses

• Visa processing fees and temporary living arrangements in Canada

• Additional support for Bella’s medical needs and long-term care
