A few days ago, my family's only vehicle—a 2012 Nissan Quest—was totaled in a hit and run. We had just purchased a new battery and invested in new tires, hoping to keep the van reliable for our daily needs. The van was meant to give our family of five the space and stability we needed, especially as we prepared for a cross-country move to reunite with loved ones. Losing it so suddenly has been devastating, especially since I am the only driver in our household. Being the sole provider with my three children—two school-aged girls and a toddler son—depend on me for transportation to school, appointments, and daily errands.
The loss of our van has made it impossible for me to continue working for DoorDash, which was our main source of income while I wait for my unemployment to be approved. We were already struggling to make ends meet, and now we are unable to keep up with bills or move forward with our relocation plans. Friends have helped with rides when they can, but it’s not enough to cover all our needs. We also have important appointments and errands that have been put on hold, including recovering stolen social security cards, collecting our belongings, and donating items to local churches that have supported us in the past.
To make matters worse, I discovered that our insurance had lapsed just a month before the accident due to financial strain. I tried to file a claim, but without coverage, we are left with nothing. The state troopers are investigating the hit and run, but there are no suspects yet. If anyone has any information, please contact Officer Garton at the state troopers office directly. I am sharing our story in hopes of getting support to help us recover from this setback—whether that means replacing our van, covering moving expenses, or simply making it through the next few weeks. God bless anyone who can help us financially, emotionally, or even spiritually. It is truly appreciated. Any help will make a real difference for my family as we work to get back on our feet.
