Our Family Lost Everything in the Venezuela Earthquake

My name is Alexis Soto, and I am creating this fundraiser to help my father Ramón, my little brother Alejandro, and my mother-in-law Marbelys after they lost their home in the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela.

Their apartment building, Residencias Broegan, located in Los Corales, La Guaira, was destroyed during the earthquake, along with many other residential buildings in the area and the country. I have included photos of the destruction to show the extent of the damage.

They escaped with their lives very miraculously (being some of the very few alive from that specific building), but they lost everything they owned. Their home is gone, along with their furniture, clothing, personal belongings, documents, and the memories they built there over many years.

To make matters even more difficult, my mother-in-law, Marbelys, who is currently seven weeks pregnant, was trapped under falling walls during the collapse. She required immediate medical attention and continues to need medical care to ensure both her health and the health of her baby. The emotional trauma of this experience has also been overwhelming for our family.

I currently live in the United States and am doing everything I can to support them, but the costs of emergency housing, medical care, replacing basic necessities, and helping them rebuild their lives are far beyond what I can manage alone.

Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward helping them with:

• Emergency housing expenses

• Medical expenses and prenatal care for Marbelys

• Food, clothing, and essential daily necessities

• Replacing basic household items they lost

• Psychological support to help them recover from this traumatic experience (Specially for Alejandro, my little borhter)

• Beginning the long process of rebuilding their lives

Mi nombre es Alexis Soto y estoy creando esta campaña para ayudar a mi papá, Ramón; a mi hermano menor, Alejandro; y a mi suegra, Marbelys, quienes perdieron su hogar tras el devastador terremoto que golpeó a Venezuela.

El edificio donde vivían, Residencias Broegan, ubicado en Los Corales, La Guaira, quedó completamente destruido durante el terremoto, al igual que muchos otros edificios residenciales en la zona y en otras partes del país. He incluido fotografías para mostrar la magnitud de la destrucción.

Milagrosamente lograron salir con vida, siendo algunos de los muy pocos sobrevivientes de ese edificio. Sin embargo, lo perdieron absolutamente todo: su hogar, sus muebles, su ropa, sus pertenencias, sus documentos y todos los recuerdos que construyeron allí durante tantos años.

Necesitó atención médica inmediata y continúa requiriendo seguimiento médico para proteger tanto su salud como la de su bebé. Además, el impacto emocional de esta tragedia ha sido enorme para toda nuestra familia.

Actualmente vivo en Estados Unidos y estoy haciendo todo lo posible por ayudarlos, pero los costos de vivienda de emergencia, atención médica, reemplazar las necesidades básicas y comenzar de nuevo superan por mucho lo que puedo cubrir por mi cuenta.

Cada donación, sin importar el monto, será destinada directamente a ayudarles con:

• Gastos de vivienda de emergencia.

• Gastos médicos y atención prenatal para Marbelys.

• Alimentos, ropa y artículos de primera necesidad.

• Reemplazar los bienes básicos que perdieron.

• Atención psicológica para ayudarles a superar este trauma, especialmente para Alejandro, mi hermano menor.

• Comenzar el largo proceso de reconstruir sus vidas.
