My family in Jamaica has been devastated by Hurricane Melissa. My two sons, Andre Creary and Michael Ross, along with my three grandchildren, my mother, and my siblings, are all struggling in the aftermath. They live in Saint Catherine, Saint Mary, and Linstead—areas that have been hit hard by the storm. Right now, their most urgent needs are food, clean water, and a safe place to stay. The roof of their home was blown off, leaving them exposed to the elements, and they have no power or internet. My son Daley has told me he can’t even cook for the kids, and they’re charging their phones in the car just to stay in touch. Every day is a challenge as they try to care for the children and elderly family members without basic necessities.

What makes this even more important to me is how much my family gives back to their community. My son Andre is known for teaching trades to other kids and helping the elderly in their neighborhood.
