My family recently experienced something we never thought would happen to us—a house fire that took away our home and all of our belongings. We are a family of 6, including our 6 and 9 year old children, as well as our 3 dogs and 1 cat. We had lived in this house for 10 years, and in a matter of moments, everything we had built and cherished was gone, leaving us to start over from scratch. The shock and heartbreak of losing not just our possessions, but the place we called home, has been overwhelming. We are grateful to be safe, but the road ahead feels daunting as we try to rebuild our lives.
