Update please read full story and bottom of my story

My story is not intended to bash or put down the shelter I reside at so please listen up & read full story.

Hi my name is Sunday Aweau (Sunny).

Back in April I lost my job & soon after lost my only vehicle in August. In June We ended up in the shelter in Hawaii Kapolei. Things got a little better for us during the pandemic not the best but we were grateful. Me and my husband soon got jobs and recently my 17 year old just got his first job this month. Living in Hawaii is so pricey. The cost of living, gas & food is super high. We do collect Snap Benefits but not cash. Renting out an apartment would not be an option for us as we have a family of 12. 4 adults & 8 kids. We tried to apply for section 8 but had no luck in the lottery. We also applied for housing and was not successful. With our income total we still had no luck. We're not here to have anyone pity us because that wasn't our intention but to share the awareness of families who are in situation like what we are going through.

On January 22nd two of my kids (one adult) and one teen has tested positive for covid. We were told we had half hour to get our things ready and to leave the shelter (temporarily) until we find a place to quarantine  (We were not the only family) just to clear things up. We was told that we have to call 211 Aloha United Way to help us with some place to stay. I had to do an assessment but it was only for my two kids who has tested positive. They both got approved but unfortunately they had no available space. I was told they will contact me if any available space is open but nothing yet. But that makes no sense being that only two of them will be provided a place to quarantine but the rest of my family has no place to stay? We have only one small vehicle which is a honda. That we could not transport all of us at one time. We did numerous trips back and forth to a nearby park. Leaving some of the older kids with the babies and grabbing our things which you saw in the viral video on tiktok. It was a sleepless night and a cold one too. The grass was wet from the dew & Sprinklers turned on had us on our feet moving around the park. I stayed up making my children were safe and warm. Also to make sure we don't get kicked out from another place.

Again I only ask for a small monetary donation if you feel you want to. Even if you don't have anything. Caring about us period means so much to me and my family.

A friend of ours took us in for the rest of the quarantine. We are not able to go back to the shelter until we all test negative. So If any of me or my family test positive we will still be out nowhere else to go but to still be a burden to a friend of ours.

having a place to stay is all we ask for. Not pity. So monetary will provide the person our friend for staying at her place.

Thank You all for reaching out and actually helping and caring for me and my family.

We appreciate everyone of you.

Update: We left our friends place and gave her some monetary for her love & hospitality. We are now staying temporary and took the full 14 days instead of the 5 days only because being that my family is large.  at my fathers place in Hawai'i island of Oahu located in Nanakuli.

Update: 2/4/2022
We are back at the shelter.

Prayers is all we need no judgement.

Mahalo to everyone who supports and care for us.
