My name is Tabasum Wolayat. I came to the United States as a Fulbright scholar for my PhD in Education. However, I had to remain in this country due to political upheavals in 2021.

My elderly parents, two sisters, and a brother's family, each with 4-5 children (from newborns to teenagers), need your help as job opportunities have vanished, and breadwinners lost their livelihoods. My sisters, former high school teachers, are unable to work. Since 2021, they've survived by selling assets like used cars and jewelry, but funds are running low.

Some families managed to relocate to the US but have been struggling to find stable incomes. Those of us in America are facing job uncertainty. With low-income temporary wages, we struggle to meet our expenses and barely provide for our family's medical needs. This Ramadan, the situation is dire.
