Hello, I’m Jon, and I’m writing this GoFundMe on behalf of my parents.
2023 has been hard on all of us. It has been especially tough on Mom and Dad and they need help getting through this rough patch.
My parents recently moved to be closer to their doctors and the hospitals they use so Mom can drive 10 minutes vs 90+ minutes to their appointments. They have been unable to sell their first home because the market changed so quickly and this has caused a slight problem.
Dad is a disabled Marine who has Alzheimer’s. Mom is a disabled Marine in need of a hip replacement. Mom is a forward thinker and knew they would need to do some remodeling of the new house to make it Alzheimer’s friendly and so she had the detached garage converted into a handicap accessible space to stay when they remodel the house.
Things were somewhat working out until the AC stopped working in the house and they had to go back to the first home, where Mom slipped and broke her knee. She now has to have knee replacement surgery, meaning she needs to be able to move into that handicap accessible building as soon as possible because the house is not handicap accessible.
The city requires a concrete approach be put in before they will allow them to use the space. Mom had the funding for this, until she had to use some of it to stay in a hotel near the hospital, pay for a walker, the hinged brace, and medical bills.
My partner and I both were laid off this year, so we’re unable to financially help them while trying to take care of things on our end, but we need them to be able to move into that building especially after her knee replacement surgery so she can recover properly.
We’re asking for $7,500 to cover the concrete approach being installed. Any help is greatly appreciated, from donations to helping share their story to try to get them some help. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this.
