Help Carrie Move Into a Safe, Accessible Home
Donation protected
My best friend Carrie has finally been offered a lifeline: an accessible, affordable flat within a local housing co-operative — a home where she can live safely, with dignity and support.
But she needs our help to make it happen. She has just two weeks to secure the funds needed to cover the upfront costs of moving.
Carrie lives with Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a painful connective tissue disorder that severely affects her mobility. She’s also undergoing tests for a progressive neurological condition.
Her health has deteriorated rapidly. Every day is a struggle: she’s in constant pain, often housebound, and completely exhausted. Yet she’s had to fight every step of the way just to reach this point.
Carrie currently lives in a private rental flat that’s both inaccessible and unaffordable. She’s been surviving through sheer willpower, relying on food banks, borrowed money, and the kindness of friends to get by.
It has taken Carrie many months of applying to the co-operative, arguing her case at various meetings, divulging a great deal of deeply personal information including graphic mental and physical health details, providing evidence, evidence and yet more evidence, being interviewed, and then having to appeal... But she has finally been successful!
She’s now been offered a ground-floor, level-access flat with an extra bedroom for a carer. This is the kind of safe, stable housing she’s long needed. But moving comes with costs she simply can’t cover on her own.
What the Money Will Cover
To secure the new home and make it liveable, Carrie needs to raise funds for:
- Overlapping rent during the transition
- Professional movers for her heavier items
- Basic furniture and equipment
- Accessibility adaptations
We estimate these essential costs will run into the thousands — money Carrie doesn’t have.
Your donation will directly help Carrie move into a home that meets her needs. A home where she can live safely, with her beloved cats (including Leon, pictured here trying to steal her snack).
She hopes to move before her 40th birthday this summer. Please donate what you can and share this fundraiser widely. Every little bit truly helps.
