My dear friend Avi is a queer Kabylian asylum seeker who's been in Canada for a couple years, seeking asylum from Algeria, where being a queer gay transfem person is still daunting and arduous.

They have recently been kicked out by their family and had no other choice but to file a refugee claim. Despite that, they kept working their two jobs and found a new home pretty rapidly. But this came along with the heavy burden of debt, due to the exorbitant lawyer fees, inflation and the skyrocketing cost of living here. They are in dire need of help to cover all these expenses, as they are struggling with mental health and are still procuring a competent therapist. All of that is expensive and the fact that they're working almost every day of the week does not help them cover it up. Furthermore, the current context with the upcoming adoption of Bill C-12 by the Canadian Senate may put her even more at risk, adding up to the stress she has to cope with every single day.

Avi is obsessed with fashion and style — you want to see the fits they pull off despite being broke. They're creative, kind, compassionate, generous, humble, funny, and they love cooking collectively and are very good at it! Speaking of food, they're also crazy about chicken and cook it very well but that's another story!..

Ma chère amie Avi est une douce personne kabyle, arrivée au Canada voilà quelques mois, où elle demande l'asile depuis l'Algérie, où vivre comme personne queer, gay, transfem est toujours profondément difficile.

Récemment rejetée par sa famille, elle n'a pas eu d'autre option que de demander à être accueillie comme réfugiée ici. Et malgré cela, elle a continué d'aller à ses deux jobs tout en se trouvant une nouvelle maison, où elle a pu s'installer tranquillement et commencer à enfin embrasser qui elle est.

Mais tout cela coûte cher, à cause des frais d'avocats exorbitants, l'inflation galopante et le coût de la vie toujours en hausse à travers le Québec et le Canada. Elle a réellement besoin d'aide pour couvrir toutes ces dépenses, alors qu'elle traverse chaque journée avec une santé mentale fragile et instable et qu'elle cherche toujours un·e thérapeute compétent·e, disponible et relativement abordable. De plus, le contexte actuel, avec la potentielle adoption imminente de la loi C-12 par le gouvernment fédéral précarise encore davantage sa situation, sans compter le stress intense dans lequel cela la plonge.

Avi adore la mode — vous devriez voir les tenues qu'elle arrive à assembler même sans avoir d'argent —, elle est créative, empathique, généreuse, humble et drôle, un amour d'être humain ! Elle adore le poulet et le cuisine très bien, elle sera toujours ravie d'en partager avec tout le monde !
