Hi everyone, my name is Martin. I’m reaching out to ask for help for my mother during one of the most difficult times of our lives. My mom, Leticia, has been a legal permanent resident of the United States since 1992. She is deaf and has lived here for over 30 years, raising her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, working hard, and calling this country home.

Recently, after applying for U.S. citizenship, she unexpectedly received a notice from immigration authorities stating that she is being placed in removal proceedings under a law that claims she became a “public charge.” This came as a complete shock. My mom has been here for decades, has followed the law, and has contributed to her community in every way she could despite the challenges she’s faced as a deaf immigrant.

As her son, I’ve been doing everything I can to understand and help her navigate this confusing process. But the legal system is complicated, and she needs proper representation to make sure her rights are protected and her story is heard. Her hearing is scheduled for November 5th, and time is running out for us to secure an immigration attorney who can help us present her case properly.

I am asking for your support to raise $1,200 to help cover legal fees and consultation costs. Every dollar makes a difference and brings us one step closer to ensuring my mom has someone fighting for her.

My mom has endured so much in her life—coming to this country with nothing, raising her children despite barriers, and never giving up. She deserves the chance to stay in the country she’s called home for over three decades.
