My daughter’s strength has amazed me this year. Camila is 9 years old and has been healthy her whole life. Until in April, when she nearly lost her life to strep pneumonia and spent three weeks intubated at Loyola hospital. Thanks to the incredible doctors, she survived, and her story was so remarkable that the hospital made a video about her case.
Unfortunately, in the last coming months she has been experiencing horrific seizures, that I nor the doctors can explain and her pneumonia has returned and we are currently in the ICU. She has been placed in another medically induced coma because she is septic at this moment. This will be the 3rd time since her recovery that she has gotten pneumonia again and her 3rd seizure. Aside from being hospitalized we have been following up with numerous different specialists to try and figure out what’s wrong. We haven’t received any real answers and it feels like where back to square one being intubated again.
It’s been terrifying to watch her go through so much, and I am doing everything I can to keep her safe and healthy.
I work in the service industry so if I can’t be at work I do not get paid. I also have some beliefs the apartment we live in may be contributing to her ongoing health issues. I worry every day that something in our home possibly mold or another hazard is making her sick. As a parent, it’s heartbreaking to feel helpless, but I am determined to give her the best chance at recovery. That’s why I am starting this GoFundMe: to raise money for the time I’ll be in the hospital with her and for a new home where we can have a fresh start and peace of mind, knowing our environment is safe for her.
Your support would mean the world to us. Whether you can donate or simply share our story, every little bit helps bring us closer to a safe place for my daughter to heal and thrive. Thank you for being part of our journey and for caring about her future.
This is the video Loyola made about her remarkable recovery.
