Help My Dad Rebuild His Life After Years of Struggle

Hi, my name is Kayla, and I’m reaching out for your help to support my father as he battles through one of the toughest times in his life. My dad has always been a fighter, but the challenges he has faced over the last decade have taken an unimaginable toll on him—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

In the years leading up to Hurricane Sandy, my dad suffered from severe back problems, including four herniated disks, which led to multiple surgeries. Unfortunately, one surgery went wrong, leaving him in constant pain and dependent on medication. Despite this, he tried to stay strong and continue working.

Then, Hurricane Sandy struck in October 2012. My dad decided to ride out the storm at home with his girlfriend, roommate, and beloved pets. But when the storm hit, their house began to flood rapidly. They were forced to climb to the attic, then onto the roof, and eventually, they were swept away by the rising waters. By some miracle, they survived the night, but they lost everything, including their pets. The trauma of that night and the loss of his home and animals drove my dad into a deep depression.

In the aftermath, his back pain worsened, and my dad turned to stronger substances to numb his pain. His life spiraled further when he was arrested in 2019 for selling drugs and spent a year in jail. Since his release in 2020, he has been struggling to get back on his feet, but the system has not provided the support he needs.

My dad has been living in a precarious situation, staying in a room in exchange for doing household chores, but now he’s being asked to leave because his health no longer allows him to keep up. I’m trying to bring him back to New Jersey, where I can better support him, but I’m facing my own challenges and simply don’t have the ability to help him in all the ways that he needs.

I’m asking for your help to give my dad a second chance. The funds raised will go towards helping him secure a place to live, covering essential expenses, and getting him the medical and mental health support he desperately needs. With your support, I hope to give my dad the chance to be at my wedding, meet his future grandchildren, and finally find some peace and stability after years of hardship.
