This year has been devastating for our family in ways we could never have imagined. Back in February, my parents and youngest brother were in a horrific car accident when their vehicle was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer. Their car spun out of control and crashed into a wall — the airbags never even deployed. It’s truly a miracle that they survived.
But survival came at a cost. Both of my parents suffered severe concussions, whiplash, and ongoing back injuries that left them in constant pain and unable to return to work. Their lives changed overnight. Simple daily tasks became difficult, and the financial pressure of not being able to work has weighed heavily on them ever since. My younger brother was fortunate to walk away with only minor injuries, but my parents’ recovery has been long, uncertain, and incredibly difficult.
Just as we were beginning to adjust to this new reality, tragedy struck again. On August 30, my father suffered a stroke. He was rushed to the hospital and is now in a rehabilitation center in London, Ontario. The stroke has left him with weakness and numbness on his entire left side, limiting his ability to walk and perform basic tasks. We don’t yet know the full extent of his recovery or if he will ever be able to return to work. What we do know is that his life, and ours, has been forever changed.
My other brother and I live far away and cannot be there for our parents in the way we wish we could, though we are doing our best to support them from a distance. I was able to take a short time off to be by my dad’s side, but the reality is that my parents now face overwhelming financial, medical, and emotional challenges on top of everything they’ve already endured this year.
We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for help. Any contribution — no matter how small — will go toward supporting my dad’s recovery, easing the financial burdens my parents are carrying, and allowing them to focus on healing. If you are not able to give financially, your prayers, kind words, and messages of encouragement mean more than we can express. Knowing that they are loved and supported will give them strength in the long road ahead.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read our family’s story, for keeping my parents in your thoughts, and for walking alongside us through this painful chapter.
