Help Brian Get through His Surgeries & Get Healthy
Donation protected
My dad, Brian Macneir, is 62 and one of the kindest, most charismatic people you could ever meet. He's always been the first to help others, and now he's facing a difficult time and needs some help himself. Also, not to mention his adorable companion Kaio. A 65 pound cuddle bug with a tail that turns tides when it swings.
In 2017, he suffered a severe health crisis requiring emergency surgery. His intestines were lacerated, and hes been wearing a bag for almost 8 years… Developing 9 hernias, incurring back and neck issues, as well as we discovered problems with his heart including blocked valves, calcified arteries and partial contributing to very unstable and often high blood pressure that’s put him in a very high risk situation. Despite this, he had to return to work almost immediately after the initial surgery because he didn't qualify for disability and faced over $280,000 in medical debt. To this date, he hasn't been filing taxes and by not being “on the books”, he didn’t qualify for government assistance programs, including housing and health insurance(Although we were able to get roughly $150/Mo. For EBT/Food Stanps. He's been working tirelessly ever since, relying on pick up day labor through direct client-based work, which has meant a constant struggle with fluctuating and unpredictable income.
Recently, we were able to get him medical insure through Broward Medical’s own internal program back in May of 2025. Now in June, he finally under went his first procedure after a multitude of check ups, testing, and trial period to prepare for his procedures. Currently Brian is still in the hospital with a follow up surgery to remove the now second bag he had to receive, as removing the old bag without another tied to the small intestine was a risk to him successfully healing the large intestine being reconnected to the rectum.
I've been helping as much as I can, spending over $15,000 to date to cover back rent for his boat slip (where he's been living), food, medical supplies, and other essential expenses for the 1.5 years. This support has been ongoing, off and on, covering everything from rent and gas to groceries and even food/vet bills and doggy meds for his beloved dog.
At this time, he still has balance of nearly $8,000 owed for the slip rent, not including utilities, auto insurance, and his ongoing daily expenses, which run between $300-$500 a month on average. Due to this large debt the marina is forcing him to leave and will be commandeering the boat.
Now he’s intended to be released from the hospital 06/17 and I will be housing him with myself and my girlfriend for the next two months or so as we get him through all of his medical procedures and appointments that are coming up. However we are moving in October to Georgia and cannot simply take him with us and we will need to raise money to transition him into some sort of housing while we wait on potential SSI to come through(applied for in 04/2025, average application revie/result on SSI website is 336 days…). So we have to wait and just get him healthy.
Brian’s Issues:
- Colonoscopy Bag 1 (Removed 06/10 - and healing)
- 9 hernias; 2 internal (pelvis and groin) 7 exterior (surrounding stomach and bag) - repaired and stitched on 06/10
- Abdominal Muscle replacement - moved back into place and ABs reattached 06/10
- Colonoscopy Bag 2 (Installed 06/10 - and requires removal follow up in 6-8 weeks)
- Heart Valve Obstruction - Follow up Surgery Pending date
- Calcified Arteries - diet, meds currently and potential procedure pending
- Skin growths/fat tumors - pending removal procedure
- Cataracts in both eyes - Pending Procesure (was scheduled 06/17, but had to reschedule due to healing timeline on Bag removal 1 surgery)
My own resources are now stretched thin, and soon to get thinner as I cover all my own and now his full life expenses. It’s be difficult to sustain this level of support annd I simply cannot do so indefinitely. We've started this GoFundMe to raise $30,000. Our immediate goal is $9,000 - $11,000 to cover to pay off the back rent, secure stable and affordable housing, and help bridge the gap while he finishes off all his surgeries and then as we search for more stable housing and potential employment. Any amount within and above the goal will be used to also fix his taxes and applying for government health programs after Broward care has run its course.
Any contribution, big or small, will make a real difference in helping my dad get back on his feet. If you could share this story, even if you don’t plan to donate, my father and I would greatly appreciate it. As, it gets more eyes on it, the more we could potentially help him.
Thank you for your kindness and support,
