Hi, my name is Giancarlo, and I’m asking for help during one of the hardest moments my family has ever faced.

This morning, June 28th, my stepdad, Felix Vicente, was in a devastating car crash while on his way to respond to a service call. He’s a firefighter someone who wakes up at 3 AM if needed to help others, no matter the day or time. He’s one of the most selfless people I’ve ever met.

Felix isn’t just my stepdad. He’s the dad who stepped up. At one point, it was just me and my mom, and when Felix came into our lives, everything changed. He’s been our rock ever since. He treats me and my younger siblings like we’re his own, and he’s always worked so hard to give us everything we need even if it meant sacrificing sleep, comfort, or time for himself.

Now, Felix is the one who needs help.

In the crash, he broke both of his arms and will be out of work for a long time. He’s the only one who provides for our family me, my mom, and my three younger siblings. We’re trying to stay strong, but with bills, groceries, and rent coming up, we don’t know how we’re going to make it.

My mom is planning to go back to work, and I’m doing my best with my part-time job to help, but with school, college essays, and everything happening at once—it’s overwhelming. I want to be strong for my family, but we can’t do this alone.

Hola, me llamo Giancarlo y estoy pidiendo ayuda en uno de los momentos más difíciles que mi familia ha vivido.

Esta mañana, 28 de junio, mi padrastro, Felix Vicente, sufrió un accidente automovilístico muy grave mientras se dirigía a atender una llamada de emergencia. Él es bombero una persona que se levanta a las 3 de la mañana si es necesario, siempre dispuesto a ayudar a los demás sin importar la hora ni el día. Es uno de los seres más generosos y entregados que conozco.

Pero Felix no es solo mi padrastro. Es el papá que decidió quedarse, el que llegó a nuestras vidas cuando solo éramos mi mamá y yo, y desde entonces, ha estado ahí para nosotros con todo su corazón. Ama a mis hermanitos como si fueran suyos, y ha trabajado sin descanso para darnos lo que necesitamos, aunque eso significara dejar de lado su propio bienestar.

Hoy, él es quien necesita de nosotros.

En el accidente, se rompió ambos brazos y no podrá trabajar por un buen tiempo. Él es el único que provee para nuestra familia: mi mamá, mis tres hermanitos y yo. Estamos haciendo todo lo posible por mantenernos fuertes, pero entre la renta, los gastos médicos, los alimentos y los servicios, no sabemos cómo lo vamos a lograr.

Mi mamá está buscando trabajo, y yo también tengo un empleo a medio tiempo para ayudar, pero entre la escuela, los ensayos para la universidad y todo lo que está pasando… se me hace muy difícil.

Por favor, si pueden, les pido con el corazón en la mano que nos ayuden. Cada oración, cada dólar, cada compartida, significa muchísimo. Mi papá ha pasado su vida ayudando a otros. Ahora le toca a él recibir esa misma ayuda.
