After five years living in Salt Lake City, Ashley, Magdalena, and Emilio finally moved back to New York. Nine months ago, they found and began lovingly fixing up the a 1935 Sears Roebuck catalog house.
On March 4th, that home experienced a devastating fire.
While the structure is still standing, everything inside was lost or severely damaged. The road ahead will include a long process of cleaning, rebuilding, and replacing the everyday things that make a house a home.
Insurance will help with some of the major costs, but there are many immediate and ongoing expenses that won’t be covered — meals while they’re displaced, mental health support after a traumatic event, and helping to fill in with the experiences and routines that make childhood feel stable and joyful.
One thing Ashley, Magdalena, and Emilio feel deeply is gratitude for the incredible Rhinebeck community. They’ve been overwhelmed by the kindness and support already shown. In that spirit, they’ve promised that the funds raised here will go right back into the local economy — supporting the small businesses, restaurants, and practitioners that make Rhinebeck such a special place to live.
Every contribution, message, and share means so much. Thank you for helping this family get back on their feet.
