My name is Jerah Mercer, and I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my brother, Jordan Fresque.
Just weeks after our father passed away, Jordan’s three year old son, Julian, was taken by his mother to Japan for what was supposed to be a month-long visit with her family. Upon arrival in Japan, citing medical reasons, she chose to extend their stay an additional four months. During that time, Jordan and Julian shared daily video calls and he was led to believe that they would return in August as Julian was registered to start school in September. The day that Jordan was to pick them up from the airport, he awoke to a message from her saying that she wasn’t coming back and not to worry about Julian. They never boarded their return flight, there has been no follow-up explanation, and no contact from her since.
Jordan has shown incredible strength and patience through a situation no parent should ever face. He’s now navigating the process of the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction, an international treaty that provides a legal framework for the return of children who have been wrongfully taken to another country.
Jordan has already taken significant steps to open a Hague application and retain legal counsel in Japan. However, the ongoing legal fees, and upcoming travel to Japan for court proceedings and reunification are financially overwhelming for him. Jordan spent all of his savings to purchase a home so that Julian would have a stable environment to return to. Prior to this, Jordan and his wife had been living with and taking care of our late father.
We’re asking for your support, whether it’s through a donation or by sharing this campaign. All donations will go directly toward legal fees, travel expenses, and related costs needed to continue this process and secure Julian’s safe return home to Canada. Every bit helps Jordan move one step closer to being reunited with his son.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read this, and for standing with Jordan through this unimaginably difficult journey.
