Hi, I’m Claire and I am raising funds for my Brother Carl, Sister in-law (also) Claire and my 2 nephews Jack 16yrs and Harry 12yrs.
On October 22nd 2025 my sister in law Claire 38yrs old was admitted to Pinderfields hospital with abdominal pains. Once in hospital it was believed that Claire could have Crohn’s disease. Claire was in hospital for 3 days before being sent home.
2 days later and Claire was once again rushed into hospital by ambulance, this time she couldn’t stand and could barely move without screaming out in agony. Once she arrived back at Pinderfields they realised she had a perforated bowel in several places. Claire was taken down for emergency surgery to try and remove everything that had leaked into the abdominal cavity. We were told Claire had around a 50% chance of surviving the operation which thankfully she did. Claire then had to go back to surgery 48hours later so the doctors could clean out the remaining infection and look at the bowel. Claire’s bowel was found to be cancerous and needed to be removed, she woke up to a permanent stoma bag. Once out of the second surgery Claire’s kidneys started to fail and she was put on dialysis for a few days. Claire spent the next 2 weeks in ICU. While in ICU after having further tests Claire was given the news that she also had Cancer of both the liver and lungs. Claire was transferred to the high dependency unit where she stayed for approximately 6 weeks while recovering from surgery.
Claire was then transferred to the rehabilitation centre at Pinderfields where she had to gain strength before she was allowed to return home.
Claire was finally allowed home on Christmas Eve and spent Christmas Day at home with her boys and close family.
On Boxing Day Claire was rushed back into hospital with Sepsis and spent the next week there. This was when Claire was given the devastating news that
she had 12-18 months to live.
Claire then returned home and while trying to process this heartbreaking news she received a video call 4 days later where she was told that the prognosis she had been given was incorrect and that she infact only had WEEKS to live.
Claire now lives day to day in a hospital bed in her front room at home where she is trying to spend as much quality time with her 2 boys, family and friends.
My brother Carl has now relocated from York to Castleford to look after Claire and the boys. This will obviously mean Carl won’t be working for the foreseeable and as Carl has no savings everything from now on is going to be a struggle.
I am setting up this fundraiser as any amount raised is going to be a massive help for Claire, Carl and the boys whilst they are going through the worst possible time.
As you can imagine keeping on top of household bills and daily living costs etc. is almost impossible right now so anything raised will be such a huge relief for them so they can concentrate on quality time rather than the financial stress.
Any amount you can donate no matter how big or small would be greatly appreciated and if you could also share this go fund me page I would be very grateful.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
