Hi, I'm Jonathon. I'm writing on behalf of my aunt and cousin, who just had their lives completely blown apart right when things were finally starting to go their way.
For years, the two of them have struggled financially. That was starting to change. My cousin had just landed a job at USPS, steady income for the first time in a long time. They were finally getting somewhere.
Then their house caught fire in the middle of the night. My cousin had no choice but to climb through the attic, burning his hands and face (first, second, and third degree), then jump onto a neighbor's roof and down a ladder to get out. Unfortunately, their beloved dog and cat didn't make it.
My aunt is in the hospital now with serious smoke inhalation and lung damage. My cousin is hospitalized too, dealing with his burns and trying to process everything. We're still waiting to hear how they're both doing.
They lost their home, almost everything they owned, and their pets. Medical bills are already piling up. They need somewhere to stay, clothes on their backs, basic household items, and help covering ongoing medical care.
Whatever you can give goes toward:
- Medical bills — hospital care, medications, and follow-up treatment for burns and smoke inhalation
- A place to stay — temporary housing while they figure out next steps
- Basic necessities — clothes and household essentials lost in the fire
- Keeping my cousin's job — so he doesn't fall too far behind during recovery
These two have never been ones to ask for help. They put their heads down and figure it out. This time they can't do it alone.
If giving isn't possible, please share this. The more people who see it, the better.
Thank you for reading. It means a lot to our whole family.
-Jonathon
