Help Mr. Whitehurst Return Home!
Donation protected
Mr. Whitehurst has received parole and is coming home on November 16th!!!
The Parole Advocacy Project at Columbia Law School has been working with Mr. Whitehurst to secure his release from prison since December 2023. He has been incarcerated for 25 years, in which he has had very little in-person interaction with his loved ones. He is eager to reconnect with the many important people in his life, especially his four daughters. He is also a talented self-taught artist and is hoping to create his own clothing line, “I’m Good,” someday! However, reentering society is incredibly difficult after any period of incarceration, especially 25 years. In order to aid his transition, Mr. Whitehurst needs our help!
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, Mr. Whitehurst is a New Yorker through and through. His father raised him with a strong emphasis on family. His daughters have shared that he has always tried his best to be there for them, support them, and guide them, describing him as a “nurturing” father who poured “love and dedication” into their lives.
Mr. Whitehurst also loves to express himself with art and has spent much of his time in incarceration creating designs for his future clothing business. He has also connected with others through his artwork, teaching someone in his dorm to use colored pencils so that he could draw a picture of his daughter. Mr. Whitehurst is eager to continue pursuing art in the next chapter of his life, both through his clothing line and by volunteering with community art programs for youth in diversion.
Mr. Whitehurst has family in the city but some of his family members have relocated to the West Coast. Mr. Whitehurst hopes to be a consistent presence in his daughters’ lives when he is released and is excited to support them in their own goals. He is eager to transition into a new work environment, as well as obtain independent housing as soon as he can. To help his transition go smoothly and support these goals, we are asking for donations to support his immediate needs. These include funding for a cell phone, clothes, transportation, and other basic necessities.
Please consider supporting Mr. Whitehurst as he returns home!
