Help Mr. Mike Raise $7,500 to Renovate His Camper

Mr. Mike, as the neighborhood youngsters call him, is a 68-year-old disabled veteran that served in the armed forces overseas. Mike was stationed at F.E. Warren for two years and in Germany for two years during the mid-1970s. He raised five children and supported them through adulthood. Mike would eventually come to New Orleans to take care of his mother after Hurricane Katrina; she passed in 2013, which is when Mike’s life changed.

Mike rented a room and stayed there for five years, but that house would eventually be sold. The new owner at the time had allowed Mike to live on his property, in a camper. Unfortunately, that camper was destroyed during Hurricane Ida, forcing Mike to find elsewhere to live. During this time, Mike’s health was rapidly deteriorating, and he had become out of touch with his children and immediate family.

Marlene Durel, co-owner of the Voodoo Two, purchased the home next door to renovate and has been allowing Mike to live there while she renovated the home around him. Now, the home is ready to be put to use and Marlene wants to assist Mike in finding a new camper so that he could live in it on her property.  Grace at the Green Light is helping to keep Mike in a home and requests your support!

We need $7,500 to purchase to a new camper that includes air conditioning, carpet, appliances and a working bathroom so Mike can live comfortably on her property and without need for necessities.
