John Anderson, or Mr. Johnny as his friends and loved ones affectionately call him, has been a pillar of the Ferguson community for over 40 years. A US Navy veteran and a true American hero, Mr. Johnny is known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others. When I moved into my home in 2023, it didn’t take long before I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Johnny. I quickly learned what kind of neighbor he was when, during my first week, he took my trash cans to the curb because he knew I wasn’t familiar with the schedule yet. That small act of kindness was just the beginning.

Mr. Johnny has touched the lives of so many throughout Ferguson. Even in his seventies, he continues to mow the lawns of dozens of elderly neighbors, keeping himself active and serving his community in every way he can. The day after his house went up in flames, Mr. Johnny was back out in the community, taking care of others. That’s the kind of person he is—always putting others first, no matter what he’s facing himself.

Recently, a devastating house fire changed everything for Mr. Johnny. After a long stretch of dry weather, brush on the side of his house caught fire, quickly spreading across the roof and inside. The house is now unlivable, all utilities have been shut off, and Mr. Johnny has lost all of his possessions. Despite this, his spirit remains strong, but he is now facing homelessness and needs our help more than ever.

Funds raised will go directly toward providing Mr. Johnny with clothing, temporary housing, food, and the cleanup and debris removal needed to begin rebuilding.
