UPDATE: Sharon & Tony here and after talking with a few friends and family, we decided to raise our goal a bit because the leasing office for the complexing had told us yesterday (4/21/2023) that since ours had the most damage than that it LOOKS like we’re the intended targets so if we were to break our lease then we’d have to pay a 2 months rent fee so now we’re looking to get a lawyer on top of maybe even buying a house if things go well. Again all are welcome to give any amount you can or even just sharing our story.
Aloha everyone, our names are Anthony & Sharon, and we have 2 little girls named Riley (7) and Remi (3) and at 9:40pm on 4/19/2023 our apartment was hit by a drive by shooting. We’re originally Hawaii natives and we had wanted to move to a more affordable state that we could raise our family and hopefully be able to buy a home so we decided to move to Indiana outside of downtown Indianapolis. Though we have made a few friends here in our apartment complex, we have also have had problems that have popped up here from murder that happened as a result of a mugging on the other side of the complex to the multiple domestic violence and police visits just close by our little apartment but just recently we were directly affected by it.
Sharon and I were just up at night watching TV and having a conversation when all of a sudden we heard this loud POP sound inbetween the two of us and then next thing we knew, more of them started flying over us which was then when we realized we were in the middle of a drive-by shooting. Almost 2 dozen rounds were shot through our building including our neighbor next door as well as the neighbors opposite of us and those above us but our apartment got hit the most. I was able to call 9-1-1 and get the police to come and once the shooting stopped I immediately checked in our girl’s room to see if they were alright and thankfully they were unharmed and sound asleep still.
When police arrived we were told that we most likely weren’t they intended targets and most likely they had just gotten the address wrong. Luckily we are able to be held up by some very kind friends of ours in a safe neighborhood but we feel violated in the first place we were able to call home for almost 3 years.
From my dad passing away recently to Sharon having gone through cancer treatment just within these passed several months, I just want our bad luck streak to end. All we’re asking is for a little help paying for whatever moving expenses as well as help to afford a better place for us to live in a safer neighborhood which usually cost anywhere from $200-300 more than what we were paying for in our tiny 2 bedroom apartment. We just need a way to pay the extra for a little while we try and see what we can for us to be able to afford it later on. We’re grateful for whatever you can give or even just sharing our story and link.
