Mona is a homeless lady in my neighborhood who has never asked for anything. She’s created a small area on the sidewalk with an old mattress and blankets, calling it her home. My wife and I do what we can to help her with necessities, but Mona’s situation is heartbreaking. After spending time talking with her, we learned that she’s endured abuse from her family and, sadly, from service providers who were supposed to help. Instead, they took advantage of her disability benefits and mistreated her, both mentally and physically. Because of this, Mona has found it safer to live alone on the streets, away from those who have caused her harm.
Despite everything, Mona remains resilient and kind. She deserves a chance at safety and stability. We believe that if our community can come together to raise enough for a used trailer, Mona could finally have a place of her own—somewhere she can live independently, free from debt, and with an address to help her resume her disability benefits. This would give her the security and dignity she deserves, and help her meet her needs without fear of being used or abused again.
We have seen firsthand how much a little kindness can mean to Mona. I want the world to show her that not all people are bad, and that together, we can make a lasting difference in her life. Please consider joining us in supporting Mona’s journey to a safe and stable home.
