I am Mona and I have three children: we are fleeing death, and searching for Life

In a single moment, everything in our life changed.

My son Mohammad (11), daughter Mais (7), and son Malik (6) used to live a modest life in Gaza. Despite the hardships, we still hold on to hope.

The war began in October 2023, and one night, while eating dinner, a missile struck the building next door. Windows shattered, part of the ceiling collapsed. I ran barefoot, clutching Malik in my arms and pulling Mohammad and Mais as I was screamed: “Run!”. We survived — barely. But our house was completely destroyed.

My husband had left before the strike and never returned. To this day, we don’t know if he’s alive or death.

In the first round of displacement, my children and I lived in a makeshift tent with no doors, no electricity, and no warm bed.

In our most recent displacement round we are now living in a rented store 3*5 meters.

Mohammad suffers from nightly panic attacks. Mais has stopped smiling. Malek asks for his father every night.
