Help Momen from Gaza Reach His Study Opportunity in Italy

Hello everyone,

My name is Omar Abushqair. I live in Belgium, and I am organizing this fundraiser for my younger brother, Momen Abushqair, a 24-year-old student from Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip.

Momen has lived through years of war, repeated displacement, insecurity, and the loss of a normal life. Despite these extremely difficult circumstances, he has continued searching for a safe and legal way to pursue his education and rebuild his future.

After a long and difficult journey, Momen received an official invitation to join the Foundation Year program at the University of Bologna in Italy, from October 2026 to July 2027. This opportunity could finally allow him to continue his studies, reach safety, and begin building an independent future.

However, receiving an invitation from the university is only the first step. This opportunity is not a fully funded scholarship. The university is not able to cover all the expenses related to the visa process, official documents, translations, travel, accommodation, or living costs.

Momen is still inside Gaza, where the war and humanitarian crisis continue. Food, medicine, transportation, internet access, temporary accommodation, and official documents are extremely expensive. He and our family continue to live under constant pressure and uncertainty.

I, Omar Abushqair, am Momen’s older brother and the organizer of this fundraiser. I live in Belgium and will receive the donations through the bank account connected to this campaign. I will use the funds to support Momen and pay his necessary expenses directly whenever possible.

When necessary and legally possible, I will transfer funds to Momen through available regulated financial channels. I will keep records of payments and expenses related to his education, travel, and essential needs.

How the donations will be used

The funds raised will help cover:

Food, medicine, and essential living needs while Momen remains in Gaza

Passport, official documents, translations, and administrative fees

Visa application fees and related travel procedures

Transportation inside Gaza and travel to a border crossing or visa appointment when possible

Flights, transit, and other necessary travel costs

Temporary accommodation during the journey

Housing and initial living expenses in Italy

University-related expenses, study materials, and emergency costs

This fundraiser was originally created before Momen received this educational opportunity in Italy. The money raised previously was gradually used during approximately three years of war, repeated displacement, and hardship. It helped our family cover urgent expenses, including food, transportation, temporary shelter, basic necessities, and repairs to our damaged family home.

We are now updating this campaign because Momen has a new, real, and concrete educational opportunity. However, without additional support, he may not be able to complete the visa and travel procedures or reach Italy.

All donations will be used only for Momen’s humanitarian, educational, travel, accommodation, and essential living expenses. No funds will be used to support weapons, armed groups, political organizations, military activity, or any activity related to armed conflict.
