Help Mohammad Y. reunite with his family in Canada
Spende geschützt
Rachel & Zahra have set up this fundraiser on behalf of Mohammad Y. and his family.
Mohammad Y. is a 27-year-old refugee from Afghanistan; Mohammad worked in an international NGO in Afghanistan focused on helping vulnerable women and children. Mohammad was kidnapped and threatened by the Taliban government because of his work. His fears for his safety meant that he along with his parents, sister, and three brothers had no choice but to flee Afghanistan in the hopes of finding safety in Canada.
Mohammad's long, difficult journey started in July 2024 and took him through more than 10 countries and through the Darién Gap, often on foot with limited food and water. His passage on the trip cost Mohammad $7,000 USD, a significant amount of money in Afghanistan where an apartment rental averages $100 USD a month.
Before arriving in North America, Mohammad got separated from the rest of his family, finally reaching the United States in September.
Mohammad is now being held in a U.S. immigration detention centre near Houston, Texas. All of his family have since arrived in Canada, safe but heartbroken at having to leave Mohammad behind.
Mohammad and his family do not have the money to hire a lawyer. We have decided to raise funds for Mohammad to pay his legal fees to be released from immigration detention so he can continue his journey to Canada and become a part of our community.
Zahra and Rachel are in close contact with Mohammad's family in Toronto. Mohammad's niece, baby Noora, was born in Canada this past October, and Mohammad cannot wait to meet his baby niece. We want to do everything we can to help the family reunite so they can start to rebuild their lives in Canada in safety.
International donations are also possible, you don't need to be in Canada to donate!
We appreciate you taking the time to read this. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this page with others.
With gratitude,
