Hi, my name is Mitchell and I am almost six years old! My twin sister and I were born prematurely at 28 weeks. I spent the first 101 days in the NICU where I contracted MRSA Sepsis and fought the infection, causing brain damage, resulting in the diagnosis of Spastic Quad Cerebral Palsy.
I am a joyous five-year-old little boy who loves people, music, and family, especially my twin sister, Macie. I love school and my therapists. When I'm at home, I like playing with my fidgets and cars.
In June 2023, my parents separated and we no longer have a vehicle for our household. Due to my complex care, we are constantly traveling to appointments in Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, and Muskegon. In July 2023, I received my wheelchair and transporting since has become extremely difficult because of the size and weight of my wheelchair. Since then, we have relied on family members and our social worker to help transport to and from appointments, but have seen damage to my wheelchair as a result of taking it apart and putting it together each time.
As I grow, the need for a wheelchair-accessible van has become a dire need to transport me in a safe and reliable way. We have received two grants but are hoping to raise the remaining funds for the purchase of the van. My family and I appreciate any and all support you can give us.
Thank you,
Mitchell and Family
