Hi everyone! My name is Mira, and I'm a junior at San Diego State University. In June of 2022, I will be traveling to Cuzco, Peru with VAW Global Health Alliances. This journey will allow me to work alongside local healthcare professionals to provide medical care to those in disadvantaged areas. Reinforcing my training leading up to the trip, I will attend several orientations and workshops focused on professional development in medicine and cultural sensitivity while on-site. Additionally, I will be required to demonstrate proficiency in clinical skills, such as measuring blood pressure, taking temperature, and recording body mass index (BMI), among other skills — approved by a local healthcare provider — while assisting in clinical care stations.

Ever since middle school, my dream has been to become a physician. I strive to meet those who are sick and in need of quality medical care with kindness and empathy every opportunity I can get. This volunteer trip puts my current knowledge into practice and allows me to learn beyond the textbook.

The funds raised for this mission trip will go toward the vital medication we provide for the patients we assist and the VAW program fee.
