Help My Folks Stay In Their Home
In 2019, my parents, Mindy and Richard, were preparing for a peaceful retirement. After selling their property in Roberts, Montana, they planned to use the proceeds to live a quiet, off-grid life.
In that time, my younger brother made them an offer: instead of moving away, why not build a home on a 20-acre property he was buying? He wanted to create a family compound, understanding their desire for a self-sufficient life on their limited Social Security income.
Trusting in this dream, my parents invested nearly all of their life savings into building their own home with their own hands on his land. They created a beautiful, off-grid house powered by solar energy, a sanctuary where they could live out their golden years.
Everything Changed in 2023
Shortly after my brother's new girlfriend moved in, the relationship shattered. He began a campaign of verbal and emotional abuse against them, particularly my mother. To protect the home they built, my parents secured a legal easement. This triggered an extreme and vicious response.
The harassment escalated so severely that my parents were granted an Order of Protection. This order has since been violated in a violent and shocking manner, leaving my now 70-something parents living in constant fear on their own property.
Now, They Are Fighting for Their Home
This July, my brother and his new wife filed a lawsuit. For all intents and purposes, this is a frivolous lawsuit seeking to bankrupt my parents with legal fees. They are demanding my parents abandon the home they built and paid for, seeking to leave them with nothing—no home, no savings, and no recourse. To avoid being thrown out on the street, my parents had no choice but to fight back in court.
This has forced them to hire two law firms—one for the lawsuit and one to uphold the Order of Protection. The legal fees are mounting rapidly, with estimates as high as $50,000. My parents live solely on Social Security; they have no other income and no savings left after building their home.
We Need Your Help
My parents are kind, good people who worked hard their entire lives. You may know them from their long and compassionate life. They built their retirement home in good faith, only to have it turned into a source of terror and financial ruin.
We are asking for your support to help cover their devastating legal costs. Any contribution will go directly to their legal defense fund, helping to ensure these two seniors are not made homeless by a cruel and baseless lawsuit.
Thank you for your kindness, your support, and for helping protect my parents' home and safety.
