Hello Friends!

I started this GoFundMe proposal to help our friend (and our Chinese teacher ) to be able to reunite with her two sons, ages 10 and 11. Here is her story:

Miki Zhu, who is a native Taiwanese woman living in Taipei, was happily married with two sons to a Canadian man. Unfortunately, the marriage ended, which left Miki devastated. Miki worked a variety of jobs to make ends meet. She was raising her sons to value education and hard work, which is the norm in Asian culture.

Last November, her now ex-husband requested that her two sons come with him to Prince Edward Island in Canada (where he is from) for 2 months to visit his family. Things seemed odd to Ken and me, because at the last minute, her ex-husband told her that the flight was moved up by one day. He told her that while she was at work, she did not have time to get to the airport to even say goodbye.

Right before Christmas, with presents wrapped and under the tree, the ex-husband informed her that the boys would not be coming back to Taiwan. Ever. Miki had no opportunity to discuss this before this life-changing decision was made without her. Everybody in Taiwan (church family, teachers, extended family, coaches, friends, etc.) were shocked as well. The whole community is still processing this situation.

Miki and her ex-husband have shared parenting. Miki does not have the funds for an attorney and believes it would not be the best path to take. She does not want another legal battle as her divorce was just recently finalized. The choice she has made is to relocate to Prince Edward Island so she can be close to her boys and continue to be able to parent them. The goal of this GoFundMe is to raise the initial $25,000 USD to cover much of the cost of relocating from Taiwan to Canada. Please consider supporting Miki in her quest to be in close proximity to her children. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
